Join the artists and curator from the exhibition "Continuum of Change" on Saturday, August 7 at 2 p.m. to discuss the artwork and lessons we can learn from the historical figures shown through portraiture.
The exhibition, which is part of an effort called Initiative 1897, shares a glimpse into the lives of nine people who had a significant impact on the city of Wilmington in the 19th Century. Hear the artists discuss the inspiration for their portrayals of Dr. Lucy Hughes Brown, John C. Dancy, Abraham Galloway, William Benjamin Gould, Mary Washington Howe, Alexander Manly, Thomas C. Miller, Armond Wendell Scott and Dr. James Francis Shober. Learn more about each historical figure here. The interactive conversation will also touch on how to find more equitable pathways forward.
"Continuum of Change" is on view at 216 N. Front Street through August 28. Gallery hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The exhibition will also participate in the Wilmington Fourth Friday Gallery Walks on July 23 and August 27. Learn more about the exhibition and the historical figures at 1897ilm.com and blackonblackproject.com.
