Our latest exhibition "Continuum of Change" in Wilmington, N.C. closes this weekend, with gallery hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This group show examines the late Congressman John Lewis' words from his 2012 book, "Across That Bridge." In it, Lewis writes: "It is only through examining history that you become aware of where you stand within the continuum of change."
It's through that framework that we look at nine historical figures depicted through portraiture. Our aim is to highlight some of the many Black Americans who helped usher in change in the Wilmington area.
The hours for the final three days of "Continuum of Change" are:
Thursday: 3 to 7 p.m.
Friday: 3 to 7 p.m.
Saturday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We hope to see you this weekend as we close this important exhibition. To follow proposed guidelines from New Hanover County Health and Human Services, we ask that visitors please wear face coverings while inside the gallery.
"Continuum of Change" is part of Initiative 1897, which uses artwork and community dialogue to examine the centuries-long inequities that the Black community has faced. Learn more here and read this essay about the Initiative 1897.
