Actor Sonny Kelly will perform his one-man performance “The Talk” at Fayetteville State University Jan. 23-25 at the Butler Theatre. The weekend of performances is part of FSU’s 2019-2020 Fine Arts Series. Get tickets here.
“The Talk” — which is directed by Joseph Megel — draws on the voices of ancestors, elders, youths and intellectuals to engage in the difficult conversations that parents have with children of color to prepare them to survive and thrive in a divided America. The performance was born of a painful conversation that Kelly had with his oldest son upon hearing about protests and riots in the streets of West Baltimore in the wake of Freddie Gray's death in 2015.
The Jan. 23 program begins at 7:30 p.m. and will include a post-show conversation with Kelly. The conversation will be moderated by Black On Black Project founder Michael S. Williams.
