Join mixed media artist Alexandria Clay on Thursday, February 3 at 7 p.m. as she discusses themes of her latest body of work, "I Carry Them On My Back, Of Course!" The exhibition is on view until March 11 at the Weems Gallery on the campus of Meredith College. It is presented by Black On Black Project. The February 3 event is virtual. "I Carry Them On My Back, Of Course!" questions the origins of "safe spaces," examines how they are conceived and studies who maintains them. Clay will discuss how Black matriarchs preserve such places of refuge but often see their impact go undervalued.

Black On Black Project founder Michael S. Williams will facilitate the conversation with Clay, which will include a suggested reading list for viewers. The conversation will take place virtually through a Zoom webinar. We hope to see you virtually on February 3.
