Exhibition statement: "Have You Heard..." is an exhibition about the forgotten and hidden histories of two African-American communities in North Carolina: the city of Wilmington, and the Crest Street Community in Durham. Artist Anthony Patterson takes a documentary approach to painting as his work is informed by historical events and archival media to bring about meaningful conversations.
The works in “Have You Heard…” consist of the ongoing documentation of history by the artist. A Durham native, Patterson has an interest in breaking down how and why his neighborhood and others across the North Carolina have changed over time. #APHaveYouHeard
